Tailgate on Tour - part 2, an espresso emergency
An espresso emergency! The dreaded splutter that every mobile coffee shop owner dreads. Our lovely shiny new espresso machine had frozen and sprung a leak🥲.
After only a couple of uses and some inexperience on our part we didn't keep the trailer or machine warm enough through the last cold snap and we found out the hard way what that means. Luckily the machine isn't completely broken and a quick filter change and a service from the lovely people at the coffee guys and we should be back up and running in the next few weeks 🤞🏼.
While we are waiting for the service/repair it gave us some time to evaluate how we store the trailer and machine and we've learnt some valuable lessons. We knew the cold weather was a real threat to something as delicate as a espresso machine and we realised we'd neglected some crucial maintenance steps.
We've taken some steps and we've got ourselves a small oil filled space heater and camping battery to put some gentle heat into the trailer overnight on the coldest of nights. This will, hopefully stop the pipes and internal components getting too cold. We also got extra covers for the machine, an outdoor pizza oven cover to go along with the foil lined thermal blanket we already had.
All this combined should get us out in front of the cold when it eventually comes back 💪🏼. The whole experience has taught us the importance of being prepared and taking action on things before they become bigger problems. We've invested in the preventative measures and we are now more confident it can keep us running and the coffee flowing whatever the weather throws at us 🤠.
Much love
